Chocolate Strawberry Flowers

Chocolate-covered strawberries can be a bit messy to make. This simpler idea is a festive and healthy vegan treat using only strawberries, chocolate chips, banana, and any sprinkles you want.

Strawberry season is one of my favorite times of year! If you grow strawberries or just love to buy them on sale during those precious months of May and June, make sure to add this fun treat to your list! They look so amazing and taste just as good!

I could see them fitting as a starfish shape treat for an ocean or under-the-sea themed party, too.

I got this idea from my friend Melissa who blogs over at WellWithMelissa.Com. She is a queen of quick and wholesome treats and smoothies, and so it’s no wonder this beautiful and easy idea came from her. After I saw it on Instagram, I had to try it the next day with my kids. We all had fun making them and just a few minutes later they were ready. We make a treat most Monday nights after we do a little gospel lesson and family activty. We call it Family Home Evening and having a treat consistently at the end keeps it fun. Since it’s weekly though, I try to make our Family Home Evening treats on the healthier end. They almost always involve fruit.

How to Make these Quick and Easy Chocolate Strawberry Flowers

Forget melting loads of chocolate so you can dip a strawberry down into it, and wasting what’s left in the bowl. This wastes no chocolate and is much less messy than dipping chocolate-covered strawberries.

  1. Spoon a small, flat circle of chocolate onto your lined pan.
  2. Put a banana slice in the middle. If you don’t like bananas, you could a circle shaped piece of strawberry slice.
  3. Next, put strawberry slice petals all around it.
  4. Drizzle more chocolate on top of the center to hold it all together. Add any sprinkles you want for extra crunch.
  5. Finally, freeze 10 minutes until hard, then transfer to the fridge until you eat them so the fruit doesn’t freeze rock hard.

Servings 8 flowers

Equipment

  • 1 baking sheet
  • parchment paper, wax paper, or a silicone mat
  • microwave or double boiler for melting chocolate chips

Ingredients

  • 1 lb strawberries, washed and patted dry
  • 1 banana
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips or other melting chocolate

Sprinkles of choice (choose one or multiple)

  • slivered almonds
  • crushed pistachios
  • hemp seeds
  • chopped walnuts
  • chopped pumpkin seeds
  • chopped pecans
  • shredded coconut

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, wax paper, or a silicone mat.
  • Cut the stems out of the strawberries and slice them into even slices to create a petal-shape. Peel and cut the banana into slices that are 1/4 inch thick or thinner.
  • Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl for about 60 seconds, stir until smooth. Or, use a double boiler on the stove.
  • Spoon 8 thin, flat circles of chocolate onto the lined baking sheet, about 2-3 inches in diameter.
  • Put one slice of banana into the center of each circle.
  • Press strawberry slices around the banana center, creating a flower shape.
  • Drizzle a little more chocolate on top of the banana and the center of the strawberries. Then sprinkle any chopped nuts or "sprinkles" of choice.
  • Place in the freezer for 10-15 minutes, until chocolate is hard. Then transfer to the fridge so the fruit doesn't freeze rock hard. Keep in the fridge until ready to serve.
  • They are so yummy!!!
