Magic Shell Peanut Butter Yogurt Cup (Vegan)

Magic Shell Yogurt was a viral trend, and here’s the vegan version with my own twist! Break through the hard shell and let the the creamy yogurt burst into the cracks of chocolate! It packs some protein and probiotics along with pure peanut butter pleasure!

I didn’t make or eat yogurt for the longest time when I started eating plant-based. Non-dairy yogurt is so expensive, and any flavor besides plain has more grams of sugar per serving than you should consume in a day! (Did you know 25 grams of sugar is the recommended max?)

Then I learned how to make my own soymilk yogurt really easily in my Instant Pot. It is creamy and rich in protein, along with providing probiotics like all real yogurt does. It’s so much cheaper than buying it! I just buy a small container of any yogurt as my starter, and a carton of soy milk that only contains soy beans and water. Check out my full blog post about making your own homemade soy yogurt.

This treat is the best of all worlds– a little bit healthy and a little bit indulgent and special–and I’m obsessed. Whenever I make a little bowl for myself I only end up getting a couple bites because all my kids want some, of course.

How to Make the Viral Magic Shell Peanut Butter Yogurt Cup

You don’t actually have to measure anything here, I just provided measurements for the nutrition facts to calculate precisely.

Just mix a little bit of peanut butter and maple syrup into plain yogurt. I also add a pinch of salt and vanilla to my homemade yogurt for max flavor. If you’re using flavored yogurt, like vanilla, there is no need to add maple syrup or anything.

To add some fiber and fruit, I slice a banana into the yogurt. You could also add berries.

Melt some chocolate chips, pour over the yogurt, and chill.

The chocolate creates a “magic shell” like the classic chocolate sauce. It’s delicious to break through and let the the creamy yogurt burst into the cracks of chocolate!

Variations

  • To add even more protein, you can stir some protein powder into the yogurt.
  • Or, you can stir in PB2 powder instead of peanut butter for lower fat and calories and also more protein.
  • Mix up the type of yogurt you use.
  • Use berries instead of banana.
  • Sprinkle chopped nuts or coconut onto the melted chocolate before it hardens.
  • Or, skip the chocolate! So yummy still.

Instructions

  • Mix the plain yogurt with peanut butter and maple syrup. Slice a banana on top and push down into the yogurt a bit.

  1. We had so much fun making this for breakfast! My son, who is convinced he doesn’t like you yogurt, even liked it. I blended in the banana because I only had frozen bananas, but they all liked it. Thanks!
