10 Non-Candy Valentines Ideas that Kids Actually Love

Look no further for fun non-candy Valentine ideas for kids, including my super-cheap most favorite idea with a free printable!

If you’ve ever picked your child up from a Valentines party at school wondering if Valentines Day is the new Halloween, you’re not alone. So. Much. Candy.

Between allergies, sugar overload, and classroom rules, a lot of parents are looking for non-candy Valentine ideas for kids’ classes that are still fun and meaningful.

The good news? Kids don’t need sugar to have fun. Simple, thoughtful gifts can go a long way—and often last longer than a piece of chocolate anyway.

Gone are the days of passing out boxes of chalky conversation hearts. Here are 10 easy, non-candy Valentine ideas that work great for school classrooms, church groups, and homeschool co-ops.

Non-Candy Valentine Ideas for Kids

  • Mini Play-Doh containers
Fun, hands-on, and always a hit. Add a tag like “You shape my day!” or “You are won-DOH-ful!” Find mini play-doh here for a great price.

  • Stickers
Heart stickers, animals, smiley faces—kids love them all. My kids love these design-your-own sticker sheets. You could say, “Stick with me, friend!”

  • Pencils or cute erasers
Practical and festive. Pair with “You’re write for me!” or “You’re a sharp friend!” These bendable pencils (affiliate link) are fun and novel and low-cost.

  • Bookmarks
Great for encouraging reading. You can keep them simple or include a kindness message or verse. These scratch art bookmarks are a hit with kids!

  • Bubbles
A classic kid favorite. Add “You make life bubbly!” and call it done. Here is a great deal on cute Valentine bubbles.

  • Mini notebooks or notepads
Perfect for doodling, journaling, or pretending to be a teacher. These inspiring notebooks are great for kids or even your adult friends!

  • Crayons or colored pencils
Small packs are affordable and useful long after Valentine’s Day.

  • Temporary tattoos
Fun, exciting, and completely sugar-free. Hearts, animals, or stars all work well. These temporary tattoos are very low cost and my kids approve!

  • Faith-based Valentine cards or Jesus Figurine
If appropriate for your setting, a short Bible verse or reminder of God’s love adds extra meaning to the day. These mini Jesus figures are popular and super cute. My kids have received several from parades and trick-or-treating, so I keep them in our church bag and my kids like to hold them during church. Make a little card that says “A Little Jesus is All We Need, Happy Valentines Day!” and tape it on.

  • Sticky Hands
My kids LOVE sticky hands! Here are sticky hands with cards all ready to go.

My FAVORITE Valentine to Make for Kids Classes (with FREE PRINTABLE!)

You are one package of balloons and 10 minutes away from checking class Valentines off your list!

This is my go-to Valentine that we make every year for my kids preschool parties, homeschool groups, etc. They are dirt cheap, kids love balloons, and it’s not candy. It’s a perfect last-minute Valentine that you don’t need to order anything for!

I go to the dollar store and buy a bag of 20 balloons for $1.25. I print these Valentines Cards that I designed (free for you!) and use a razor blade or scissors to make two cuts to create a slit to put the balloon into (or have your child just tape the balloon on). Have them write the their name on each one, and you’re done!

Click here to print the valentines. There is a colored page, and a black and white version if you want to hand-color them yourself.
